News - Qualifying for Care Services - Have Your Say
We have been asked by the Care Services Minister to look at how the current system used by local councils to determine access to social care services, called ‘Fair Access to Care Services’, impacts on people.
We are to make recommendations on how the system could be changed to meet the Government’s vision of more personalised social care services.
We want to involve as wide a range of people as possible, including people who use services, carers, representatives from councils, provider, voluntary and community organisations, research and other interested bodies at every stage. We are planning four key steps to the review:
1. ‘Have your Say’ We held an event on 1 April 2008 with people using services, carers, and stakeholder representatives, including the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services and the Local Government Association. This is to ensure everyone’s concerns and ideas can guide the review.
2. Establishing the national picture we will be calling for evidence (to questions) and conducting an online survey during April and May, and welcome responses from everyone – public, people using services and all interested parties. The survey, and full details about written submissions, will be available on our website, www.csci.org.uk, from 1 April 2008. Queries and written evidence can be directed to our dedicated mailbox– FACS.Review@csci.gsi.gov.uk. For queries and requests for alternative formats please contact our customer service helpline: 0845 015 0120. We will also be conducting a literature review and drawing on other research findings, as well as evidence from within CSCI.
3. Considering the options for change We will run special focus groups and workshops in the summer to consider the findings and discuss options for change in the short and longer term.
4. Examining the evidence A sounding board of key stakeholders will meet over the course of the review to receive all the evidence and debate the findings. We have been asked to present our findings and recommendations to the Care Services Minister by 15 September 2008.
