Guidelines for Information required prior to commencement of service

  • All personal information as per company guidelines
  • Care Requirements – live in care work is based on an average working day spread across day and evening. This would include personal care, domestic care and support people in their social needs. It does not include health care (unless provided with specific competency based training) or deep cleaning duties. The care would relate to the individual service user and any support to other householders members, such as cooking meals, would have to be agreed upon prior to commencement.
  • Care Workers must have their own room, with a door lock, and preferably with a TV. They must be allowed privacy in their rest periods.
  • Live in Care Workers are entitled to have a good nights sleep. This means that you will need to determine whether or not the client will need regular night care. It is expected that the care worker will attend to the client during the night in cases of emergency. Should there be more than one night in a row where the care worker is up 2 or more times, the night will be charged at an hourly rate and a night respite worker may be required.
  • The service is designed to be as flexible as needed to accommodate changing needs.
  • Live in care is subject to the same Health and Safety and medication regulations as domiciliary care. All HCC policies and procedures apply.
  • You must ascertain whether or not the client can be left unattended. Care workers are entitled to a 2 hour break during the day whereby they should be able to leave the property if they so desire. If this is not the case we would have to have domiciliary care services nearby to accept the package. 2 hour domiciliary care breaks would be charged at the local hourly rate.
  • Care workers must have access to a telephone or mobile phone reception.
  • Care workers should be provided with food to prepare for 3 basic meals per day. Any additional food or special dietary requirement is at the expense of the care worker or alternatively a food allowance of £5 per day.
  • Transport needs must be clarified. You will need to determine whether or not the care worker needs to be a driver and if the service user has their own car or will be expecting to use the care workers’ car. If this is the case, you will need to ensure that both the client and care worker are aware of what insurance is required. All mileage incurred by care workers using their own cars whilst on duty will be paid for by the client.
  • If the Care worker has to travel over 20 miles, to and from the live in service they will receive transport costs paid for by the client.
  • Care workers should be made aware of what amenities exist in their area of work. They may need to know if there is a supermarket, bank, Doctor, internet service etc they can access for their use if required.
  • Care workers have the right to work in a safe environment and therefore should be aware of any factors which may present a risk.
  • Any acceptance of a live in service should include the ability to replace a care worker in an emergency, and within 4 hours. A back up care worker should be available and briefed so that in the unlikely event that the regular worker has to leave, the client is not left unattended.
  • Clients must specify any particular personal requirements i.e. gender, religious, cultural, language needs prior to the commencement of service.
  • Should a client wish to interview the care worker prior to accepting the service, this will be done so at their expense. The care worker will be paid transport costs and an hourly rate by the client.
  • As with any HCC client a care plan, inclusive of a risk assessment will be completed prior to commencement of service. We will visit you/client at home.
  • Payment is by direct debit only.
